OST Certified/Lateral Police Officer
The Murfreesboro Police Department encourages candidates who meet our minimum requirements and have obtained a P.O.S.T. certification as a law enforcement officer to apply and transfer to the Murfreesboro Police Department through one of our Lateral Entry Programs.

Candidates who meet the criteria of the Lateral program, at least 1 year of patrol level duties, will be required to complete a 3-week abbreviated
orientation training curriculum. -
Candidates who meet the criteria of the Lateral program will be required to complete a 10-week abbreviated training program, based on their performance. Those who do not meet the performance standards will be required to complete a 15-week field training program.

Candidates may qualify for experience pay.
Lateral Curriculum
- A 3-week (120 hours) Orientation training course Lateral Recruits ONLY
- A 10-week (400 hours) accelerated field training program for Lateral Recruits
- A 3-week (120 hours) Transition School at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy for Out-of-State Certified Officers ONLY
The Murfreesboro Police Department Headquarters building is a state-of-the-art 135,614 square foot building which includes many amenities and technical capabilities:
