Police Officer Lateral Transfers
Requirements
- In-State Laterals must be AZPOST certified.
- Out-of State Lateral applicants must not be separated from their agency for more than one (1) year.
- Out-of-State Laterals must have at least one (1) full year of experience as a first responder excluding academy time, administrative assignments or jail/detention officer duties.
- Out-of-State Lateral applicants must have attended a state certified post approved academy. Self-sponsored academies are excluded.
In-State Lateral Application Steps
- Complete an AZPOST Personal History Statement (PH) at
Click here --> my.azpost.gov and share it with the Phoenix Police Department.
- Record your AZPOST ID Number

Complete the eligibility questionnaire Click here --> Register for Police Lateral (in the search box type “Police Lateral”). Be sure to include your AZPOST ID Number for your PH.
- Once the eligibility questionnaire is complete, please allow up to 3-4 weeks to be notified if you are selected to begin the hiring process.
- Upon review of the background packet, only the highest qualified applicants will be contacted and invited for an interview.
