The men and women of the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) transcend the traditional investigative functions of most law enforcement internal affairs units, combining a unique mix of authorities, capabilities, and expertise. Focused on the dual mission of safeguarding and promoting the integrity and security of the CBP workforce, we conduct investigations in a thorough, unbiased, and professional manner, ensuring accountability across the agency and building strong partnerships with other federal, state, and local agencies.
From our national headquarters in Washington, DC, and strategically located regional field offices, we screen potential CBP employees for suitability; conduct polygraph examinations for law enforcement positions; educate employees concerning ethical standards and integrity responsibilities; investigate allegations of employee corruption and serious misconduct, and evaluate security threats to CBP employees, facilities, and sensitive information.
