The Burlington Police Department is offering a $15,000 recruitment bonus for ten (10) new recruits and/or lateral transfers.
Burlington Police Officers Enjoy:
- Starting salary ranges from $61,435.7120 – $67,766.35 annually, based on previous law enforcement experience.
- Education incentives: Annual bonus for an Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.
- Tuition reimbursement.
- Work schedule that consists of 10 hour days – 4 days on and 3 days off with weekends off every other month.
- Specialty assignments that include Canine Officer, Street Crimes Unit, Detective Bureau, Drug Unit, Honor Guard Team, School Resource Officer, Bike Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol, Recruitment Division, Domestic Violence Officer, Field Training Officer, Community Affairs Officer and more.
- Training, Uniforms and Equipment costs are paid by the Department.
- Overtime can be received in pay or vacation accrual.
- Vacation:
- 0-5 years – Receive 2 weeks of paid vacation plus floating holidays, personal time and sick leave.
- 6-10 years- Receive 3 weeks of paid vacation plus floating holidays, personal time and sick leave.
- 11-15 years- Receive 4 weeks of paid vacation plus floating holidays, personal time and sick leave.
- 16+ years- Receive 5 weeks of vacation plus floating holidays, personal time and sick leave.

- Shift differential for evening, midnight and weekend shifts.
- City retirement system with retirement at 20 years of service at 50 % of your average 5 highest years of base salary (minimum age of 50), increases 5% each year. Or, retirement at 25 years of service at 75% of your average 5 highest years of base salary (minimum age of 50).
