Lateral Entry Officer Salaries range from $104,582 – $158,435 with a signing bonus of $20,000.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

MAJOR DUTIES
- Performs duties to protect life and property.
- Maintains law and order and responds to emergency calls.
- Patrol the City enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the City, State and Nation.
- May perform investigations or training duties.
- Perform patrol duties including foot, bicycle and motorized vehicles and police service duties assigned in areas.
- Preventing crime through proactive patrol, disseminating information, taking necessary police action and investigating criminal and non-criminal incidents to determine the nature of the incident.
- Perform a variety of law enforcement, crime prevention, investigation or other specialized duties.
- Provide police patrol in both uniformed and plain clothes operations, and carry out all functions related to police services.
- Engage in patrol functions that include responding to citizen calls for service, rotating shifts, foot patrol, watching high/pattern crime areas, and physical security checks.
- Investigate reports of criminal behavior.
- Work under the general supervision of a shift supervisor (Police Sergeant).
- Perform other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or police supervisory personnel.
- Maintain good working relationships with citizens and actively promote police/community relations.
Minimum Qualifications
- A.A. Degree or completion of a least 45 degree units at the time of testing and the commitment to complete an A.A. Degree or 60 units during the probationary period.
- The A.A. Degree or 60 units requirement must be met before permanent status may be attained. The probationary period will not be extended to provide additional time to meet this qualification.
- At the first step of the background investigation and prior to the release of the background investigation packet, you will be required to submit proof that you meet the minimum education requirement in the form of and A.A./B.A./B.S. diploma, transcript, letter from the registrar or other document approved by Human Resources Department.
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- At time of appointment, a valid California Driver’s License is required.

Lateral Police Officer must have a minimum of one year of satisfactory full-time employment as a sworn officer in a Municipal, County or State Police Department within the State of California. Possession of a valid California Basic P.O.S.T. certificate is required. Must be a United States Citizen.
